America Day Recording

Happy summer everyone! We spent our July 4th weekend hanging out in Nelson, Nh with Ben Rogers (that’s him over on the right taking a rare break from the console), recording engineer extraordinaire. Much thanks to Buzz Laughlin for letting us crash his place for the weekend and take it all over. Craig, Lauren and Katie spent long days laying down their parts for the records. Jeff and I mostly kept the fridge stocked, then emptied it of its contents, then re-stocked. Then we encouraged people to go swimming. It’s a good thing Ben was there to keep us all on track.

Perhaps most exciting was our Saturday night jamboree and recording session. Our families and friends came to help us do a special sing-a-long for the finale of our record, kids included! We can’t wait to share it with you.

Now we’re almost done… A few more tracks to lay down before Ben gets the final mixes together! We’re not sure when it will be ready – hopefully sometime soon though.

For all you western Mass and S. Vermont folks I’ll be playing a rare solo show this Thursday (well, maybe Jeff will come too) at Matt Lorenz’s Spring Hill Archival Mill at 11 Market St in Northampton. Come check it out if you’re around. Click here for details.

Stop that Frank

Mike here, stealing the blog back from Franko. Thanks to everyone who made it out to our recent shows in Amherst, Cambridge, Peterborough, Providence, Philly and Baltimore. We had a great time playing with lots of amazing musicians/groups – Dan Blakeslee, Brown Bird, The Devil Makes Three, Marco Panella, The Silks and The Woolly Moon. It was a good little tour overall, but Frank starting doing this obnoxious thing where he would wait to see what clothes I was wearing, and then dress exactly like me. I think our mother may have put him up to it. In the photo to the left he seems very impressed with himself, don’t you think?

This summer we’ll be taking some time off from performing to work on our new album. Also, don’t forget to check out Jeff’s band Redwing Blackbird during their little tour in mid-June. Katie Trautz and the Tall Boys (includes Katie and I and some other great musicians from up north) will also be on the road in late June so don’t miss it.

And lastly, keep checking our facebook page for updates about everything. Jeff Murphy is the greatest status updater this band has ever, ever known.
